Bybit for beginners: the first week, in the right order

Updated 2026-09-06

A first week on an exchange goes well when the steps happen in the right order and the account is not asked to do things it is not ready for. This is the order, for someone who has never held crypto on an exchange, with the welcome rewards placed where they fall and the things to skip named.

Up to $30,020 in welcome rewards with code MNTR

Day 1: register and verify

Open the account through the button on this page or type the code MNTR into the referral field. That attaches Bybit's welcome programme, capped at $30,020, and it cannot be attached later. Use an email you will keep and a password used nowhere else.

Then verify identity immediately: a government photo ID and a selfie, name matching exactly. Nothing is released without it, and two of the welcome deadlines run from registration, not from verification. The account guide and KYC guide cover the details and the reasons verifications fail.

While verification runs, turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app, not SMS, and turn on the withdrawal address whitelist. Five minutes now saves the account later.

Day 2: fund it once, correctly

Choose one route and read its guide first. In most countries outside the US and Europe, that route is P2P: buy USDT from a verified seller, pay in local currency, receive the coins with no network fee. If you already hold crypto elsewhere, send it on-chain following the deposit guide, checking the network and any memo before you send, because that is the one mistake nobody can reverse.

Deposit at least 100 USD within seven days of registration. That releases the 10 USDT deposit bonus into the rewards hub, and it is the first reward with a hard deadline.

Day 3: one spot trade

Buy a small amount of a major coin on the spot market with a limit order, then sell it. The purpose is to learn the order form, see the fee (0.1% per side at the base tier), and watch a fill happen while the amount is too small to matter. Spot is the only product a beginner needs in the first month; a spot position cannot be liquidated and cannot lose more than it is worth.

This trade also starts the count toward the 15 USDT trade bonus, which needs 500 USD of volume within thirty days. A few small trades over the month get there naturally. Do not trade to reach it.

Day 4: look at the rewards hub, then leave it

Open the rewards hub in the account. The $100 sign-up bonus appears there after registration and the starter tasks; so does the deposit bonus once the deposit clears. Read the terms on each: they are trading bonuses and coupons with their own rules and expiries, not cash. Claim what is available, note the expiry dates, and close the hub. The claim guide covers each reward's conditions in order.

Days 5–7: learn what to skip

Derivatives. Every Bybit product beyond spot carries leverage, the app makes them one tap away, and the taker fee (0.055%) looks lower than spot's until you notice it applies to the leveraged notional. Leverage is a tool for people who understand liquidation, and the first week is not when that understanding arrives. The position size calculator exists for when it does.

Copy trading, bots, launchpools and the rest of the product menu. All of them are fine later and none of them is a beginner's first week. An exchange account is a place to hold and exchange coins first; everything else is optional.

Anyone in the P2P chat or a Telegram group offering a "better rate outside". That is the standard scam, and the escrow cannot protect a trade it is not part of.

After the first week

You will have a verified, secured account with a funded balance, one trade behind you, and the first two welcome rewards claimed. From there the fees guide tells you what trading costs, the withdrawal guide shows how money gets out, and the referral code page lists the rest of the welcome ladder for when your trading, if it grows, gets there on its own.

Bybit does not serve residents of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, the EEA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and a set of sanctioned territories; the button on this page checks your country before it redirects, and the availability guide explains why.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bybit good for beginners?
Its spot market and P2P are as simple as any exchange's, and the welcome programme rewards the first steps. Its derivatives are not for beginners, and the app makes them easy to reach, which is the main thing a new user has to be careful about.
How much money do I need to start?
A first deposit of 100 USD within seven days of registration unlocks the 10 USDT deposit bonus; there is no minimum beyond P2P order limits. Start with money you can afford to leave alone.
Should I use leverage as a beginner?
No. Every Bybit product beyond spot carries leverage, and leverage multiplies both losses and fees. Spot first; derivatives only if and when you understand liquidation.
What is the welcome bonus for a beginner?
A $100 sign-up bonus after registration and the starter tasks, 10 USDT for the first deposit and 15 USDT for 500 USD of trading volume, with a ladder above that. The programme caps at $30,020 and attaches only if you register through a referral link or code.
