Bybit mystery box: up to 1,000 USDT, what unlocks it
The mystery box is the part of Bybit's welcome programme that people ask about most, because it is the only reward whose value is not printed. This page sets out what Bybit does publish about it, how the qualifying volume is counted, and the arithmetic of trying to reach it on purpose.

What Bybit publishes
The box is worth up to 1,000 USDT. It becomes available to a new account, registered through a referral link or code, that reaches 10,000 USD of trading volume within 30 days of registration. That is the whole of the published rule. Bybit does not publish the distribution of outcomes, the minimum, or the odds of the top prize, and this site does not invent them.
It sits alongside the fixed early rewards: a $100 sign-up bonus after registration and the starter tasks, 10 USDT for a first deposit of at least 100 USD within seven days, and 15 USDT for 500 USD of trading volume within thirty days. The whole programme is capped at $30,020, most of which is a deposit bonus ladder above the box; the referral code page lists all of it.
How the volume is counted
Volume means cumulative turnover, not account balance. Every fill counts at its notional value, and a round trip counts twice: buy 500 USD of a coin and sell it, and you have 1,000 USD of volume. On derivatives, the notional includes leverage, so a 100 USD margin position at 10x is 1,000 USD of volume on open and another 1,000 on close.
The practical effect is that an account that trades a few hundred dollars a few times a week reaches 10,000 USD inside the month without noticing, while an account that buys once and holds does not. The box rewards activity, not capital.
The arithmetic of chasing it
At Bybit's base fee tier, spot trading costs 0.1% per side as a taker and derivatives 0.055% per side. Ten thousand dollars of spot turnover therefore costs about 10 USD in fees, and the same in derivatives about 5.50 USD. Against a box of unknown value with a 1,000 USDT ceiling, the fee alone is not the problem.
The problem is that generating volume means taking positions, and positions move. A trader who opens and closes to reach a threshold has taken market risk for a reward whose size Bybit has not told them. The honest rule is the one that applies to every threshold reward: trade because you were going to trade, and take the box when it arrives. Our position size calculator is there for sizing the trades you were going to make anyway.
Where it shows up and what to check
The box appears in the rewards hub inside the account once the volume is reached, and it is opened there. The contents follow the hub's terms: typically a trading bonus or coupon with an expiry rather than a withdrawable credit. Read the terms of the reward when it opens, because a bonus that expires unused is the most common complaint about the whole programme.
Everything in this article depends on one thing happening at registration: the referral code. Without it there is no welcome programme and no box, and it cannot be added afterwards. The code on this site is MNTR; the button applies it. Bybit does not serve residents of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, the EEA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and a set of sanctioned territories, and our link checks your country before it redirects.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I get the Bybit mystery box?
- Register through a referral link or code, then reach 10,000 USD of trading volume within 30 days of registration. The box appears in the rewards hub and opens for a reward of up to 1,000 USDT.
- Is the mystery box really 1,000 USDT?
- 1,000 USDT is the top of the range, not the typical result. Bybit publishes the ceiling and not the distribution, so treat it as a bonus of unknown size rather than a thousand dollars.
- Does spot or futures volume count?
- Volume is cumulative trading turnover across Bybit's trading products. A 500 USD position opened and closed counts as 1,000 USD of turnover, so 10,000 USD arrives faster than the number suggests for anyone trading actively.
- Is it worth trading just to open the box?
- Usually not. At the base taker fee, 10,000 USD of spot turnover costs about 10 USD in fees and derivatives turnover about 5.50 USD, so the fees are small — but trading you would not otherwise do carries market risk that dwarfs the fee, and the box's actual value is unknown.
